Television Shin-Hiroshima (TSS) has received a Finalist Diploma in the Documentary: Human Concerns category at the international media competition New York Festivals 2026 for its special program commemorating the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing, “The Reason She Speaks to the World,” which aired on August 6, 2025.
This award recognizes entries selected for the final round of judging and marks the first time that TSS has been honored at the New York Festivals.
Established in 1957, the New York Festivals is a prestigious international competition that honors outstanding work across television, film, radio, advertising, and digital media. Entries are submitted from more than 40 countries worldwide, and the 2026 awards ceremony was held online on May 22 (JST).
The program is a documentary that follows atomic bomb survivor 小倉桂子, who has dedicated herself to sharing her testimony in English. Filmed over nearly five years beginning in 2021, the work explores the theme of “passing on memory.” It traces how her experiences were adapted into a kamishibai (paper theater) by high school students in Hiroshima, then translated into English by students in the United States, expanding the message across borders.
[Comments from Director Momoe Ishii]

The program is also available in English, and I hope this recognition will encourage more people to watch it and connect with her message of peace. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this project.”
